What Not to Do as a Nurse

RNs can sometimes form habits in the course of their practice. While some of these can be helpful in terms of providing quality patient care, there are certain tendencies that can only cause trouble in the long run.

As big influencers on RNs, Nurse Managers can advise their staff to avoid doing these things:

24/7 Nurse Mode
New nurses tend to immerse themselves too deep in their careers that they fail to achieve work-life balance. Nurse Managers need to ensure that their staff can easily do the things they love and spend time with families and friends the moment they walk out of the hospital doors at the end of their shift.

Indecisiveness
At some point, nurses have to choose a field that they want to specialize in. Nurse Managers need to help their staff to figure out what they want to do in the long run so that they may be able to have a stable job in the healthcare industry.

Being a Loner
Being a team player is an important part of having a successful career. Nurse Managers should inspire harmonious relationships in their unit as much as possible. This fosters a culture of support that will benefit all staff members.
